Yamaoka is Senior Assistant Professor at Keio University, Graduate School of Media Design. He graduated from the Department of Media and Governance, Keio University in 2013, received his Ph.D. in 2015. He was a research fellow at the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (PD), and a visiting researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a project assistant researcher at the University of Tokyo and joined KMD. Research activities include Interactive Media, Digital Fabrication, Media Art, STEM education. He got accepted in international conferences of UIST, CHI, got prizes such as the WIRED CREATIVE HACK AWARD 2014 Grand Prix.
